How does it work?
To benefit from the Edgeworks Web Compliance Warranty, web sites firstly undergo a Compliance Audit which includes both a full legal audit and technical review covering the following legislation:
- The Disability Discrimination Act 1995
- The Data Protection Act 1998
- The Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000
- The Electronic Commerce Regulations 2002
- The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003
Upon completion of the audit, noncompliance issues are documented and recommendations to achieve compliance are provided. Where appropriate, the report will also include suggested alternative wording for key policies such as Privacy, Data Protection and Cookies that can be incorporated directly into the web site.
Simultaneously, Edgeworks will also review and assess the web site against W3C Level ‘AA’ standards to ensure compliance with DDA legislation (Accessibility). The detailed report checks against over 100 automated checkpoints and 50 manual checks and details precisely the changes that have to be implemented to achieve compliance.
To ensure compliance is maintained, the legal audit is repeated on a biannual basis whilst the technical review is completed monthly and a detailed report provided to the client.
Following successful completion of the Compliance Review web sites are entitled to display the Edgeworks Web Compliance Warranty designation secure in the knowledge that their web site is fully protected and in line with current UK legislation.

Penalties and Fines Edgeworks will reimburse the cost of any fines or penalties directly incurred by you as a result of breach of the legislation.
Brand Protection Programme Edgeworks will provide access to a dedicated online PR specialist to advise you or your incumbent PR agency on how to counter any negative publicity arising as a consequence of noncompliance.
Programming Where the web site has been created, hosted and maintained by Edgeworks we will cover the cost of any changes or amendments to the web site as are reasonably practicable to prevent any continuing or future breach of the legislation. Where the web site has been created, hosted and maintained by an intermediary Edgeworks will provide guidance to prevent any continuing or future breach of the legislation.
Legal Advice Where a claim is made for noncompliance Edgeworks will provide access to a specialist compliance solicitor to provide initial guidance as to the validity of the claim and summary advice in managing the claim.
